tall boots bunching around ankle area

Postby fashionly_confused » Fri Jan 13, 2012 4:33 pm

Hello all!

I just received the tall riding boots I ordered online today but I'm not sure if the bunching around the ankle area is 'normal'. It kind of looks untailored in my opinion but I don't know if this is simply a case of variation or bad boots. I googled my query and came across this post on this forum (http://www.letsfashiontalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1707). My boots are very similar but there are more 'wrinkles' around the ankle. I don't know how to include an image of my boots in this post (sorry!) !

Thank you all in advance!

Welcome to the forum! I think the scrunching at the ankle is usually result of the boot sliding down the calf too much or of there being excess material near the ankle. If there's a little wrinkling, I think it's fine, but with riding boots, part of the appeal is their sleek styling so the wrinkling shouldn't make it look too slouchy, imo.

Well, there has to be SOME wrinkling, otherwise you wouldn't be able to bend your ankle to walk. I have noticed my boots have gotten more wrinkled/bunchy around the calf as I've had them for longer, but I don't think it detracts from the look.

Thank you, Siepres and ellyabillion!!! I agree, some wrinkling is normal and necessary for movement. I'm just not sure if the amount my boots display is the right amount. Do you know how I can post a picture to give you a better idea of what my boots look like?

Welcome fc! I think there is bunching due to styling and bunching due to bad fit/excess wear.

Boots need to fit the leg and ankle but not so tight you don't have range of movement in the ankle and circulation in the leg, yet not so loose the boot starts to slip down the calf.

More often than not, boots will bunch at the ankle.

Kirsten Dunst - a little bit of bunch:

Katie Holmes - medium bunch:

More bunch:

Gwyneth:

Gwyneth - IMHO P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N!

Reese - medium bunch

Gwyneth - IMHO a don't!! I think this bunching is due to styling but they come in soooo much at the ankle and seem looser than they need to be at the top to give a terrible silhouette.

Great examples, Z! Fashionly, here's a thread on how to use the member galleries to add pics to the forum:

If you have a photobucket (or similar) account, you can also use the image [img] tags!

Thank you so much! The links were very helpful!!! I tried uploading my picture but because I'm still a 'newbie' I can't. That's okay! I'll post them after some time :) Btw, the image that is closest to my boots is of Katie Holmes'. Again, thank you!

I just bumped you up to a member (we get so much spam some days that we have to be extra careful), so you should be able to use the gallery now. :) If your boobs look like Katie Holmes, I think that's probably fine. Z's right that you do need some space at the ankle for moving.
